ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
The transition to 5G is more than a simple upgrade from previous technologies. It’s a revolutionary change that prepares for higher data rates and increased spectrum utilization. To handle the massive increase in data, a whole new core network is being specified and developed. The 5G core is cloud native and based on microservice technologies, opening up for the utilization of API structures with protocols found in traditional internet services, like HTTP and TLS. While this offers huge benefits from a capacity and scalability point of view, it also requires a whole new mindset from a security standpoint.
This presentation highlights some important problems arising with the introduction of 5G networks. The cloud native philosophy offers new ways of introducing security measures, and a lot of experience from other types of cloud environments can now be reused in modern telecommunications. The introduction of 5G offers new and interesting opportunities, but comes with a few security challenges that require a completely new way of thinking about securing telecommunication networks in the future.
